Communities are partners in creating health change.
BarnMD uses Community Organizing Participatory Action Research (COPAR) as the foundation for its community programme approach. People are not simply recipients of activities: they participate in identifying concerns, analysing local conditions, setting priorities, organising, taking action and evaluating progress.
BarnMD contributes facilitation, public-health knowledge and coordination. The community’s voice, context and ownership guide the process.

Community voice
Residents help define the issues that matter, identify local strengths and decide which priorities deserve attention.

Community groups organise, plan and lead appropriate action, with BarnMD contributing facilitation and technical support.
Learning and continuity
Progress is reviewed with participants so that lessons, accountability and sustainability shape the next steps.

Eight frameworks for community-led health action
These are approved programme frameworks, not a statement that all eight are currently active in the field. Each programme must be developed with the community concerned and pass readiness, safeguarding, technical, resource and operational review before implementation.
Community Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Development
Community-led identification and action on local water, sanitation and hygiene priorities in schools, households and neighbourhoods.
Community Prevention of Long-Term Conditions
Communities identify local risks linked to long-term conditions and organise practical, sustainable prevention and access-to-care initiatives.
Community Maternal, Newborn and Child Health
Women, caregivers and communities identify barriers affecting maternal, newborn and child health and organise locally led responses.
Community Women’s Health and Reproductive Health
Women and community groups identify priority women’s and reproductive health needs and lead action to address barriers.
Community Mental Health and Psychosocial Wellbeing
Communities identify psychosocial priorities, reduce stigma and organise safe, locally appropriate support and referral initiatives.
Community Environmental Health and Climate Resilience
Residents investigate environmental conditions affecting health and organise locally owned, sustainable responses.
Community Health Equity and Access
Underserved communities identify barriers to essential health services and organise evidence-informed advocacy for improvements.
Community Youth Health Leadership and Action
Young people investigate community health concerns, organise collective action and participate meaningfully in local decisions.
Programme activities are community-defined and subject to appropriate approvals. Framework approval alone does not mean field implementation has begun.

We distinguish digital engagement and catalogue activity from programme delivery, people reached and health outcomes. We publish reach, partnerships and results only when supported by current records and defined methods.
